Sugar Free Tootsie Pops

I know I should not be so happy to find yet another "Frankenfood" on store shelves this long AFTER the "low-carb movement" has appeared to fizzle, but Tootsie Pops have been a personal favorite of mine since I was a child.

I found these at a Colorado Super Wal-Mart.
As with many of these products, they proclaim "Splenda" prominently on the front label, while still using polyols as the main sweetener. Tsk, tsk. However, they claim 3 pops as a single serving, with 0g sugar and 14g carbs. If you restrict yourself to just ONE pop at a time, that serving drops to under 5 carbs and 14 calories. I myself prefer this mini size to the regular and find a single pop to be just right.

Not-so-good-for-you ingredients include the aforementioned polyols (sugar alcohols that cause stomach distress when eaten in quantity, and which interfere with weight loss for many regardless of portion) as well as partially hydrogenated soybean oil. While I cannot in good conscience recommend this treat to all and sundry because of these ingredients, I must be honest and tell you that I, as a part of my lifetime maintenance, will personally be enjoying sugar-free Tootsie Pops occasionally, and in limited amounts, as long as I can find them still on the store shelf!
